Migraine & Headache Companion
Last updated 23 August 2026
The short version. Migraine & Headache Companion keeps your health information on your device. There is no app server, no account on our systems, and no analytics or advertising code. We cannot see your diary. The only thing that ever leaves your device is your approximate location, only if you switch on Weather & air quality, and only to look up the weather.
Everything you enter stays in a database on your device:
If Sync with iCloud is on, this is also stored in your own private iCloud database, under your Apple Account. That is Apple's infrastructure, not ours, and we have no access to it — syncing moves your data between your own devices, never to us.
Sync turns on automatically when your device is signed into an Apple Account, and you can switch it off at any time under Settings › Sync with iCloud in the app. If we have ever switched it on for you, switching it off is remembered and we will not turn it back on. On a device that is not signed into iCloud, sync cannot run at all and everything stays on that device.
To record barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, UV, air quality and pollen, the app sends your approximate coordinates to:
| Service | What it provides | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Weather (WeatherKit) | Pressure, temperature, humidity, UV | Approximate coordinates only |
| Open-Meteo open-meteo.com |
Air quality, PM2.5, pollen | Approximate coordinates only |
Only coordinates are sent. No headache data, no medication data, no identifier and no account travel with the request. Location accuracy is deliberately requested at kilometre level rather than precisely. Turn the feature off and nothing is sent at all.
No crash reporting, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.
If you enable it, the app writes your headache episodes to Apple Health and reads sleep, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, steps, exercise minutes, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, wrist temperature and menstrual flow, so they can be compared against your headache days.
This exchange happens entirely on your device, under Apple's Health permissions, which you control in the Health app and can revoke at any time. Health data is not transmitted anywhere by us.
Optional. The entire app is usable as a guest. If you do sign in, the app keeps the identifier Apple provides and, if you choose to share it, your first name — stored on your device only. There is no server-side account.
Reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your device. Their content is never sent to us or routed through any server.
The CSV export and the clinician PDF are generated on your device and go wherever you send them. Once you share a report by email, AirDrop or a patient portal, this policy no longer governs it — the receiving service's terms do. Please consider what a report contains before sending it.
Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage.Migraine & Headache Companion is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Migraine & Headache Companion is for personal tracking and patient education. It does not diagnose, treat or provide medical advice. Its warning-sign checks are prompts to seek professional care — never a substitute for it, and never a reason to delay seeking it. See the Terms of Use.
Material changes will appear here with a new "last updated" date and will be described in the App Store release notes.
